Privacy Policy

Effective Date: April 23, 2026

1. Introduction

Recess ("we," "us," or "our"), operating as a product of Litoreco and with a dedicated legal entity in formation, operates the Recess app and the website at recessfamily.com (together, the "Service"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and protect information when families use Recess to coordinate camps, activities, carpools, and community.

By using the Service, you agree to this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use Recess.

Plain-English summary: We collect what we need to help you run your kids' schedule (emails, calendar events, camp preferences, zip codes). We do not sell your data. We do not show your kids to advertisers. Kid-specific data is stored under the parent account and is never exposed publicly.

2. Information We Collect

a. Account Information

When you create a Recess account, we collect your name, email address, zip code, password (hashed), and profile photo (optional).

b. Family & Child Information

To draft schedules that actually work, we ask you to add child profiles. These may include first name (or nickname), age or birth year, interests, and any activity preferences or constraints you choose to share. Children do not have their own accounts on Recess. All child profiles are sub-records of a parent's account and are accessible only to the parent who created them and anyone they choose to share with (e.g., a co-parent or carpool group).

c. Waitlist Information

If you join the waitlist on our marketing site, we store your email address, the source/page you signed up from, and the timestamp. We use this to notify you when Recess launches in your market.

d. Calendar & Integration Data

If you connect Google Calendar, Apple Calendar, or similar services, we receive event titles, dates, times, locations, and attendee lists for the calendars you choose to link. We use this data solely to show conflicts and coordinate schedules inside Recess. We do not sell or share it with advertisers.

e. Usage & Device Data

We log standard usage data: device type, OS version, app version, crash logs, and anonymized product analytics (which screens you visit, which features you use).

3. Children's Privacy & COPPA

Recess is designed to be used by parents and guardians (age 18+). We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under 13. When a parent adds a child profile, it is provided by the parent and stored under the parent's account with the parent's verifiable consent to our Privacy Policy and Terms.

In compliance with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act ("COPPA"):

  • Children do not sign up, log in, post, or communicate on Recess.
  • Child profile data is not shown to advertisers, not shared outside the app, and is only used to generate schedules for the parent.
  • Parents can review, edit, or delete their child's profile at any time from within the app.
  • We do not condition a child's participation in any activity on the child providing more information than is reasonably necessary.

If you believe we have inadvertently collected data directly from a child, contact privacy@recessfamily.com and we will delete it promptly.

4. How We Use Information

  • Operate and maintain the Service (accounts, scheduling, carpools, community).
  • Generate AI-drafted weekly schedules tailored to your family.
  • Send transactional notifications (confirmations, reminders, carpool updates).
  • Send product updates and the occasional newsletter (opt-out anytime).
  • Improve the product via aggregated, anonymized analytics.
  • Detect fraud, abuse, and security issues.

5. How We Share Information

We do not sell your personal information. We share only with:

  • Infrastructure providers who help us run Recess (e.g., Supabase for database & auth, Vercel for hosting, email provider for transactional mail).
  • Other parents you choose to share with (co-parents, carpool partners, community posts you publish).
  • Camps and providers when you explicitly register for one of their programs through Recess.
  • Legal authorities if required by law or to protect safety.

6. Data Storage & Security

We host Recess data with Supabase (PostgreSQL) on infrastructure located in the United States. Data in transit is encrypted with TLS; data at rest is encrypted by our provider. Access to production data is restricted to authorized Recess personnel via SSO + MFA.

No system is 100% secure. While we use reasonable safeguards, we cannot guarantee absolute security.

7. Your Rights & Choices

  • Access / export: Email us and we'll send a copy of your data.
  • Correction: Update info anytime in-app.
  • Deletion: Delete your account from Settings or email privacy@recessfamily.com. We'll purge your data within 30 days (except what we must retain for legal / fraud purposes).
  • Marketing opt-out: Unsubscribe link in every marketing email.
  • California & state privacy rights: Residents of CA, CO, CT, VA, and other states with comprehensive privacy laws have the rights described above plus the right to opt out of "sales" or "sharing" of data. We do not sell or share data for cross-context behavioral advertising.

8. Cookies & Analytics

Our marketing site uses minimal first-party cookies for session management and anonymized analytics. We do not use cross-site tracking cookies on recessfamily.com.

9. International Users

Recess is currently designed for families in the United States, with an initial launch in San Diego, California. If you access the Service from outside the U.S., you consent to the transfer of your data to and processing in the U.S.

10. Changes

We may update this Policy. Material changes will be posted here with a new "Effective Date" and, where appropriate, notified via email or in-app.
